High on the ridges of the San Gabriel Mountains, the few large pines that cling to life are subjected to harsh wind, sand, temperature swings, and ice, leaving many gnarled, damaged, or without bark. This large tree on the Pacific Crest Trail had surely seen many years of harsh element, but was no less beautiful for the wear.
